Daniels is obviously at the center of everything. His completion percentage dropped from 69% as a rookie to 60.6% in his injury-shortened second season, and his passer rating fell from 100.1 to 88.1. The defense received significant attention as well. Washington selected Sonny Styles seventh overall, giving Dan Quinn a 6-foot-5, 244-pound linebacker who earned All-American and All-Big Ten recognition at Ohio State. Meanwhile, the franchise itself keeps moving forward. A new stadium is planned for the former RFK site, potentially bringing Washington football back into the District in 2030. There are still plenty of reasons for caution. A 5-12 season can’t simply be dismissed, and Daniels needs to demonstrate that he can stay healthy and continue developing after a difficult second year.
But Commanders fans don’t have to imagine what it might look like if this works. They saw it in 2024. The challenge in 2026 is finding that trajectory again—and proving that Washington’s breakthrough was the beginning of something rather than a season that came and went.
